Update!!

Just an update for everyone, Its been a few days since my last one.
I am out at the internet cafe again, enjoying some Mexican Tortilla Soup and a Chai Tea Latte at the same time as checking e-mails, catching up on blogs and lastly but not least, reading my Photography text in preparation for tonight's class. I have my pictures of slow and fast shutter speed, but cannot put them up here as they are on the external drive at home. I will get them for you though.
We are patiently, okay not, waiting for our internet to be hooked up by a new service provider this coming Saturday. By that time it will be almost a month without internet, which has been very inconvenient. Our entire home business is hooked up with the rotten service, and for us to be mad enough at them to change all that is wild. All our business cards, brochures, posters, rack cards, everything has email addresses on it and it will all have to be changed. I hope it will be all worth it in the end. We depend on the internet for quite a lot with our business. So you can imagine the amount of time we have had to take it to the internet cafe to get it done.
Today sure feels like fall. Its the first day that really feels like it. I went to Vancouver this morning for a doctor's appointment and came out to pouring pelting rain. I went to the closest Starbucks to wait out the deluge but it wasn't ending so ended up having to buy myself an umbrella just to walk the mile or so to my car. The freezing levels around here dropped to 1500 feet so snow was coming down in the mountains such as Whistler and Blackcomb. That is a little close for comfort!! The house is cool enough to have to wear sweaters and any colder and maybe the heat will have to go on. Hard to believe that September is out after tomorrow.
Everyone is thinking of Halloween at work. We have picked a theme for the grouphome of the Four Seasons. We have four clients, each will represent a season and the two caregivers will be day and night. What do you think?? Our company has an annual party we all dress up for and there are awards for best themes and costumes. Any other ideas out there?

This and That

1)Its been over a week since I've been able to get back to this blog. Our internet service is not working even though our internet provider had been out to the house and supposedly fixed the problem. The internet was gone I am sure before he even got to the end of the street. They phoned the next day with one of thier automated surveys enquiring about the service call. Push 1 for yes and 2 for no, eight questions all about was the technician friendly, introduce himself, tell us what he was doing. Were we happy with the service the internet provider gives?? Had to answer 2 to most of the questions. Not one question though about whether or not the service call actually rectified the problem. Well, it worked for about ten minutes and not since. So its been a couple of weeks and no internet. I got fed up with the whole thing after the automated call and am now switching internet service providers. We have to wait until the third of October though for that and then follow after with changing email addresses etc. We changed our phone over as well and added a digital package to our television, all from the same provider. I hope it solves the problems we have right now doing this drastic move.
2)On the other hand I get to bring my laptop down to the Internet Coffee Shop and enjoy a Chai Tea Latte while I catch up on my mail and post a blog post here!! Thats good!!
3)I started a Digital Photography course this past Tuesday here at the Fraser Valley University!! I am really excited to be doing this!! My first assignment this week is Shutter Speed. Take pictures depicting slow and fast shutter speeds and bring them for critique next week. I'll try and post them here too when I take them!! Shutter speed has always confounded me. I like my photo subjects to stand still please!!!
4)Lots of car problems lately. We went to one of my staff's wedding last Sunday, had major car problems getting to Grouse Mountain for the wedding and were forced to leave right away after the ceremony to try and get home before it got dark. We made it in time, good thing because we had no lights, no power to the fans, the windows etc. We have replaced the starter, the alternator and still are having wierd electrical problems despite that, so the mechanic is going to have to be visited now.
5)My 10 year anniversary is in two days!! I would marry my bear all over again in a heartbeat!! I wonder how many people would say that about thier spouse??
6)Last and never least, my youngest child celebrated his birthday on Sept. 22. I am so happy to have spent time with him this summer where he is living in Alberta. I miss him every day despite that. Happy Birthday Eric!! I love you lots!!

Macro Monday

It is amazing how fast summer can be over and the start of fall shows its colours. Seems like just yesterday and already the leaves are turning colours and starting to fall. The berries are drying up on the vines.
I love the cooler days that come with fall and the crispness of the air each day. I can't wait for a nice pile of dry leaves to walk through!!

Skywatch Friday

This huge metal Teepee is located in Medicine Hat, Alberta where I went for vacation this past August. I love the geometric lines and shapes of the Teepee and especially love the look of the sky above as I took these pictures. One thing about Alberta skies is that they are big. With flat prairie lands and rolling hills the sky is enormous.
A sky is much more interesting too with clouds in it, rather than just blue sky. At least I think so!!

Here is another view looking up from the middle of the inside of the teepee.

Leading me down the Garden Path.

I love paths. I find them symbolic of life and the paths my life takes. I am always drawn to walk down a path, especially one where I am not able to see the end of the path. I have to find out where it leads. For me it is like opening a gift at Christmas. You know something is about to be revealed, its a surprise right up until the gift is opened and revealed. Isn't my life kind of like that? I am given choices each day, different choices to make that will set me on a different pathway for each choice I make. I can't see where it might lead, or I might have a good idea where the path is going, I have only the choice to make to set my feet on the path and move forward on it.
Sometimes the paths have obstacles to overcome, hills I might not want to climb, rocks littering the path to dodge. Lessons along the way. Put your foot here and see what lesson you will be given. Sometimes the path scares me and I stand in one spot, unable to move forward, not wanting to go back either. I think we all have times like that.

Sometimes our paths are lined with gold. Every step we take is new and exciting and we have to restrain our steps so we don't go barrelling through life and miss half the scenery. A simple straight forward stroll is sometimes the most rewarding.
There is always something to be learned by venturing down the paths we encounter.

Grilled Prawns

I love any excuse where I get to feed my family something new. Its not something that I would make just for myself if it was only me that I had to feed. My daughter Lora was coming over for supper tonight so it was reason enough to find something new to cook.
The days are turning a bit cooler here, fall is just around the corner. The leaves are starting to turn colour and some even falling off. I don't mind the cooler days. The heat this year was a bit hard to take.
The barbeque is needed for this dish. I suppose you could cook them in the oven but it would not be the same.

Barbequed Prawns
1 small Onion, chopped
3 or more Garlic cloves, chopped
1 TBSP. Olive Oil
1 lb. Uncooked Prawns
Combine all ingredients in Ziploc Bag and marinate in fridge for 3-4 hours.
Skewer prawns on skewers and grill in barbeque until prawns are pink.
Prawn Dip
Zest of 1 lemon
3 TBSP. Lemon Juice
1 TBSP. Peanut Butter
1 tsp. Pepper
1 tsp. Salt
Combine all ingredients, mix until smooth. May have to slightly heat this in microwave to soften peanut butter enough to mix thouroughly.
Dip cooked Prawns into sauce and enjoy!!
Serve with grilled vegetable medley, white rice and a salad of your choice!!!
